The many faces of Halloween.

As I've read all of my friends and relatives blogs about their fun Halloween experiences, I've thought about how I would present ours. This year, Halloween was a bit different. We didn't have a big hoopla about which costume to wear, the thought didn't even cross my mind that I should sew my kids costumes, and I didn't even fathom having matching themed family costumes. To think about that adds a whole new dimension to the few hours of Halloween that I hadn't even considered!!

Now for the story...
Roundabout began her night as abut quickly came back home to change things up a bit. Cinderella seemed to be a better fit; it didn't drag the floor as she walked and therefore wouldn't get dirty on her candy collecting escapades. A few doors later, poor Cinderella noticed that she was tripping on her dress and needed a new gown. Back home and looking through the dress-up box, left our home going back out trick-or-treating.

Green Light. Originally, he had planned on being a Knight in Shining Armor. He would walk side by side of the Princess Bride and protect his maiden. But when it came down to it, the armor was just to heavy and bulky and the
costume found in the dress-up box seemed to suffice much better. The puppy didn't last long...too hot and too itchy. From one extreme to the other, he went with a sleeveless basketball uniform with shorts. But not for long! Too cold! We actually finished up the night as awith NO shining armor but complete with pumpkin shirt, cape, and sword.

Rest Area. We can't forget him. He took the night off. Yes indeed folks, he was true to his name. He went to bed at around 5:30pm. Goodnight guys. I'm sorry you chose me to be a Bumble Bee, but I'm off to happily dream.

Straight Arrow and I. Very corny as always. We'll see if you can guess. Here is the sign we wore on our backs.

I stayed home Halloween night with the sleepy one. I stayed completely amused at trick-or-treater's comments of utter disbelief when they witnessed a sign on our door that read,
"Happy Halloween! Don't forget to brush your teeth tonight" accompanied by a bowl full of toothpaste. No candy. Just toothpaste.

The reactions ranged from:
  • disbelief
  • angry punching of our front door
  • parents commenting that it was a "wonderful idea" and forcing their children to take it
  • some parents in disbelief that they were convinced it must be candy toothpaste
  • one set of grandparents exclaiming "Do they know how much this stuff costs? Honey, come back and get some more!" They proceeded to stuff their pockets.
  • comments of "A dentist must live here."
  • comments of "A dentist must live here. How lame."
  • people throwing their hands up in the air and kicking our toothpaste bowl
My sides were splitting by the end of the night. My only regret: I didn't tape record it.

Oh, and by the way, Straight Arrow and I...we were ceiling fans for Halloween.

3 different thing in one night? What a lucky girl.

I guess you haved finally found a way to keep teenagers from stealing your treat bowl. But unfortunately you have to watch out for those prankster grandparents!

What no toothbrush to go with it. Such versatile trick or treaters. They could go back more than once and no one would recognize them.

you know making the outfits for Halloween may have been easier then changing them 3 times.

Too funny! Next year set up a hidden camera so you can post their reactions on youtube or America's Funniest Home Videos and win a million dollars. My kids would have loved the toothpaste! We go through toothpaste here like its candy it seems.

Great idea with the ceiling fans! And, did you get the pumpkin shirt idea from Family Fun magazine? 'Cause we did them too! Glad you're all doing well.
