This Way or That Way

Enter to Learn, Go Forth to Serve...

It's the BYU Motto. Rather lofty, isn't it? This phrase should also describe what we do in our families. We enter this earth as tiny babies and grow into children who know nothing unless they are taught. We're here on this earth to learn, not just spiritual matters but temporal ones also....such as making sandwiches, cleaning toilets, and setting tables! A couple of years ago, I read a book entitled, "The Parenting Breakthrough" by Merrilee Boyack. If you haven't read it, I highly recommend it! In the book, the author talks about how we should be teaching our children to be able to Go Forth and Serve after their time in our home is complete.

This summer, we're hitting the chore chart hard and these two
are starting into the beginnings of the "how to be an adult" series. Each will have his and her own chores to learn how to do with some one-on-one supervision under they have mastered the responsibility and can do it on their own.

They are discovering that's it more fun to do work with a smile on your face and as Green Light loves to sing, "Whistle while you work". They are also discovering that it's fun to have some "grownup" responsibilities. And on the silly side, they are learning that it's faster and easier to clean up toys if you have
